Annulment of the European Commission's decision to renew glyphosate
General Court of the European Union of Luxembourg, European Union
First instance

In a press release dated November 21, 2023, the European Action Network Against Pesticides (PAN Europe), and four other member NGOs Générations Futures, PAN Germany, PAN Pays Bas and Global2000 have announced their intention to challenge the European Commission's decision to renew the authorization of glyphosate for a further 10 years before the General Court of the European Union.

The plaintiff associations claim that the decision to renew glyphosate contravenes European pesticide regulations, which give priority to considerations linked to the protection of human health and biodiversity, and denounce a flawed assessment process of the product's dangerousness by the European authorities.

They therefore call on the Commission to effectively apply the precautionary principle by banning glyphosate and, ultimately, to reverse the decision to renew glyphosate.
