Cancellation of the referendum initiative of the city of Conegliano banning the use of pesticides on the municipal territory.
Council of State, Italy

May 20, 2021
Positive
The appeal of the producers is rejected as inadmissible. The Conegliano referendum for a ban on synthetic pesticides is legal.

Groups of wine producers challenged the validity of the referendum "Conegliano without pesticides" organized by the municipality in 2018 to ban all synthetic pesticides in the municipality. The plaintiffs filed a first recourse to the Ministry of the Interior and then a second extraordinary recourse to the President of the Italian Republic. The latter delegated the decision to the Council of State. In its decision of May 20, 2021, the Italian Council of State rejected the recourse and upheld the legality of the Conegliano referendum.
