Plaintiff Bruce Pied regularly sprayed his coffee and macadamia nut farm in Kealakekua, Hawaii with glyphosate-based herbicides (Roundup) manufactured by Monsanto from 1982-2009. In early 2016, Mr. Pied was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) as a result of using Roundup. Decedent Alice Ogile Foote, mother of Bruce Pied worked alongside her son, in applying Roundup to the farm. As a result of her exposure to Roundup, Ms. Foote was diagnosed with NHL and died of NHL on June 22, 2007. Plaintiffs Taizen Pied and Taen Kelii Pied are the sons of Bruce Pied and grandson of Alice Foote. Pied’s trial against Monsanto is set to start Nov. 29 in Hawaii state court.
