{"id":1705,"date":"2017-10-27T09:57:21","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T09:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justicepesticides.org\/?p=1705\/"},"modified":"2017-11-16T09:59:25","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T09:59:25","slug":"france-two-lawsuits-against-the-authorization-of-sulfoxaflor-neonicotinoid-insecticide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justicepesticides.org\/en\/2017\/10\/27\/france-two-lawsuits-against-the-authorization-of-sulfoxaflor-neonicotinoid-insecticide\/","title":{"rendered":"France: Two lawsuits against the authorization of Sulfoxaflor neonicotinoid insecticide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The association <em>G\u00e9n\u00e9rations Futures<\/em> is filing two legal actions against the marketing authorizations (AMM: autorisation de mise sur le march\u00e9) issued by ANSES (<em>Agence nationale de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 sanitaire de l\u2019alimentation, de l\u2019environnement et du travail<\/em>) for two insecticides containing the neonicotinoid Sulfoxaflor: Closer and Transform.<br \/>\nThe first action seeks to have the AMM urgently withdrawn for interim relief because these products pose a serious and immediate threat to bees and other pollinators. The government has given ANSES three months to review the two AMM, but the association considers this delay much too long to prevent environmental damage. The second appeal is an appeal on the merits before the Administrative Tribunal. The association is represented in this file by Fran\u00e7ois Lafforgue, lawyer.<br \/>\n<em>G\u00e9n\u00e9rations Futures<\/em> decided to file these appeals on the basis of data from the EFSA scientific assessment, which considers that the risk is high for bees. Yet the EU has authorized the active ingredient sulfoxaflor in 2015 &#8230; even though important data on the toxicity of this molecule to bees and other pollinators were missing in the dossier. The firm that requested the authorization of sulfoxaflor (Dow Chemical) had two years to provide the data (called &#8216;confirmatory data&#8217; by the EU).
