{"id":10007,"date":"2023-10-18T09:37:15","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T09:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/justicepesticides.org\/2023\/10\/18\/10003\/"},"modified":"2023-11-03T09:42:35","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T09:42:35","slug":"10003","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justicepesticides.org\/en\/2023\/10\/18\/10003\/","title":{"rendered":"EU: Harmful postponement of the revision of the REACh regulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">October 17, 2023, Brussels &#8211;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The European Commission has decided to postpone the revision of the REACh regulation.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/strategy-documents\/commission-work-programme\/commission-work-programme-2024_en\">The Commission&#8217;s work programme for the year 2024<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, published on October 17, no longer includes this revision.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The REACh regulation (acronym for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) regulates the management and evaluation of chemical substances in the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In force since June 1, 2007, it applies to a wide range of chemical substances, including active ingredients in pesticide products. REACH establishes a set of procedures for assessing the dangerousness of chemical substances,<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #339966;\"><a style=\"color: #339966; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/fr\/regulations\/reach\/understanding-reach\"><span style=\"color: #339966; text-decoration: underline;\">and companies are responsible for identifying and managing the risks of the substances they produces<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. Depending on the risks identified and the potential hazards entailed by the product, restrictive measures may subsequently be adopted. One of the main aims of the regulation is to better protect human health and the environment, and to reduce the frequency with which chemicals are tested on animals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A key element of the &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #339966;\"><a style=\"color: #339966; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A52021DC0400&amp;qid=1623311742827\">Zero Pollution<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8221; strategy announced by the European Commission as part of the European Green Pact, the REACH regulation was to be the subject of a revision project, already postponed for the first time in October 2022.
